กรุงศรีอยุธยา ติดอันดับเมืองประวัติศาสตร์ แสนยิ่งใหญ่ของโลก

เว็บไซต์ businessinsider.com ได้รวบรวม 16 เมืองประวัติศาสตร์ที่ยิ่งใหญ่ที่สุดแห่งมวลมนุษยชาติ โดยอ้างองจากข้อมูลของนักประวัติศาสตร์ 3ท่าน คือ  Tertius Chandler, Gerald Fox และ George Modelski โดยมี กรุงศรีอยุธยา อดีตราชธานีของไทย ติดอันดับด้วย ซึงนักการทูตชาวตะวันตกที่เดินทางไปเจริญสัมพันธไมตรีด้วยได้เคยบันทึกเอาไว้ว่า เป็นเมืองที่สวยงาม
ทั้งนี้ใช้เกณฑ์เมืองยิ่งใหญ่ที่สุดแห่งยุคสมัยที่นำมนุษย์เข้าสู่อีกยุคหนึ่ง ทั้งด้านวัฒนธรรม ศิลปวัฒนธรรม สถาปัตยกรรมการค้า กสิกรรม ขนาดของป้อมปราการ การแจกจ่ายอาหาร ภัยพิบัติต่างๆ บางแห่งถูกเมืองอื่นๆ แซงหน้าในด้านความใหญ่โตและจำนวนประชากร ขณะที่บางเมืองสิ้นสุดลงเพราะถูกทำลาย

3. มาริ (Mari)  ในยุค 2000 ก่อนคริสตกาล ประชากร 50,000 คน
เมืองหลวงแคว้นเมโสโปเตเมีย (Mesopotamia) ในยุคของกษัตริย์สุเมเรียนหลายพระองค์ ก่อนเข้าสูยุคอาโมเรียน มีการสร้างพระราชวังขนาด 300 ห้อง ล่มสลายลงใน 1759 ก่อนคริสตกาล ถูกยึดรองโดยกษัตริย์ฮัมมูราบีแห่งบาบีลอน มีการค้นพบจารึกภาษาสุเมเรียน 25,000 ชิ้น ในค.ศ. 1930 ส่วนใหญ่เป็นบันทึกเรื่องราวเกี่ยวกับตัวเมือง และเศรษฐกิจ
